Grief psychologist in Toledo

Grief psychologist in Toledo

Losing someone changes everything. There is no "right" way to grieve and no deadline for getting over it. If the pain of a loss is overwhelming you or has become stuck, I can support you, at your own pace, in Toledo and online.

Do you recognise this?

When grief weighs too heavily

Grief is a natural response to love and loss, not an illness. But sometimes it gets stuck and we need help to move through it. You may recognise yourself in some of this:

  • Time has passed and the pain gives you no respite or lets you move on.
  • You avoid places, objects or conversations that remind you of the person you lost.
  • You feel guilt over what you did, said or never got to do.
  • You struggle to accept what has happened, as if it weren't real.
  • The sadness lives alongside anger, anxiety or an emptiness that nothing fills.
  • You feel you "should" be better by now, and that makes you feel worse.

Asking for help doesn't mean wanting to forget. It means looking for a way to keep living while carrying with you the person you lost.

Types of grief

The kinds of grief I support

Grief after the death of a loved one

The loss of a partner, a father or mother, a child, a sibling or a friend. A space to put the pain into words and find your own way to say goodbye and to remember.

Complicated or stuck grief

When grief drags on, freezes or stops you getting on with your life. We work gently with whatever has become blocked so the pain can start moving again.

Other losses

We don't only grieve a death: a break-up, an illness, the loss of a life plan or of a chapter also hurt. Every one of them deserves to be accompanied.

Anticipatory grief

The grief we live when we know a loss is coming, for example when a loved one has a serious illness. I can support you through that waiting too.

What therapy is like

How I support you through grief

There are no formulas or stages you "have to" complete. My work is to offer you a safe space where the pain has room and, little by little, to find a way to move forward without leaving behind the person you lost.

  1. A space for the pain

A place where you can express what you feel without anyone rushing you or telling you how you "should" be. Feeling heard already brings relief.

  2. Processing the loss

Calmly, we work through the guilt, the anger or what was left unsaid, and shape a farewell and a memory you can hold on to.

  3. Reconnecting with life

Little by little you recover meaning and desire, learning to carry the person you lost with you in a way that hurts less.

What you'll gain

Learning to live with the loss

  • A safe space where your pain has room and is not judged.
  • Relief from guilt and from "I could have done more".
  • Being able to remember the person you lost without it overwhelming you.
  • Gradually recovering your sleep, appetite and energy.
  • Finding your own way to say goodbye and to keep going.
  • Reconnecting with life without feeling you are betraying their memory.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about grief

How long does grief last?

There is no set deadline. Every grief has its own timing and depends on the loss, the bond and each person. There is no "you should be over it by now". If the pain gets stuck or stops you living, that is when it helps to ask for support.

Will seeing a psychologist make me forget the person I have lost?

No. Grief therapy is not about forgetting or loving that person any less, but about helping you carry their memory in a way that doesn't stop you living. It is about finding a new place for the bond, not erasing it.

Is it normal to feel anger or guilt as well as sadness?

Yes, it is very normal. Grief is not only sadness: it lives alongside anger, guilt, anxiety, relief or emptiness, sometimes all at once. None of those emotions is "wrong"; they are part of the process and we work through them together.

When should I ask for professional help?

When the pain gives you no respite as the months pass, stops you functioning, isolates you or shows up through your body (sleep, appetite, anxiety). You don't have to wait until you feel very unwell: you can come whenever you need to.

Does grief therapy work online?

Yes. Support through grief works just as well online, and many people find it a relief to do it from home when leaving the house feels hard. Sessions are by video call, with the same warmth and confidentiality.

How much does a session cost?

You can check the current fees for the individual session and the first orientation session on the fees page (in Spanish).
